Improvements to bank transfer registries
With Buy Our Honeymoon, you can link your honeymoon registry to your PayPal account, so that your guests can make immediate payment for their gifts using their credit or debit card. And although the majority of our customers do precisely this, some couples choose instead to receive cash or cheques on the day of their wedding, and others leave details on making a balance transfer to their bank account.
Equally, guests can indicate that they’d like to arrange separate payment for their gifts even if you’ve set up online payment into your PayPal account. This will be shown in your Gift History, to help you keep track of where payments are coming from. You can leave payment details for guests that give a range of alternative ways to pay you, so that guests who’d like to pay online can click through to pay into your PayPal account, and other guests can instead make arrangements to transfer the value of their gift into your regular bank account.
We’ve now made a couple of small improvements to the way the site handles registries that include a bank transfer option. Firstly, the text shown to guests opting to arrange separate payment for a gift previously only mentioned cash or cheque payments as examples. Now, we automatically notice if the payment instructions you’ve entered mention bank transfers, and make sure that this option mentions that too.
More importantly, it’s useful for a guest to have confirmation that their payment has been received successfully. With gifts paid into your PayPal account, we’re able to confirm this automatically, but with gifts paid to you by bank transfer, we have no way of knowing if payment has been made.
However, your Gift History gives you the option to mark such gifts as paid yourself — so now, we’ll use that opportunity to send your guest a short notification email confirming that their payment reached you. The email message simply notes that you’ve received the value of your gift, reassuring guests that the process has worked smoothly.
Both these new features work fully with our multilingual wedding registry options, so your international guests are informed too.
And don’t forget that if you’d like to add an extra level of privacy, you can ask your guests to type in a password on your introduction page to access your list. This can be useful if you want to add payment instructions such as bank account details that you’d like to keep private. Just let us know the password you’d like to use.
